The Greenland white-fronted goose Anser albifrons flavirostris is listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, and is considered to be Endangered under IUCN Red Data List criteria.
As part of ongoing wintering bird surveys, our staff are currently monitoring the movements of these geese . We counted at total of 105 GWFs on the River Suck near Ballygar yesterday and we have included some of the photos we took below. This area of the River Suck is included in the River Suck Callows SPA (Site Code 004097), and the Greenland White-fronted Goose ( A395) is a key conservation interest of this site. The photos were taken with a Nikon D90 mounted on a Kowa TSN880 scope. This work is being undertaken to inform the impact assessments of a number of proposed wind farm developments.
