Wind Farm Bird Surveys has prepared Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Natura Impact Statements (NIS) for Wind Energy Projects both in the Republic and Northern Ireland. Surveys completed included specialist bird surveys for species such as Hen Harriers, Red Grouse, Whooper Swan and Greenland White-fronted goose.
Current wind farm projects we are undertaking include Hen Harrier and general breeding bird surveys at several large proposed wind farm sites located in the Stack’s to Mullaghareirk Mountains SPA. We also recently prepared the Natura Impact Statements for proposed wind energy projects in Counties Monaghan, Tyrone, Galway, Roscommon, Mayo and County Offaly. The former project included a regional study of Whooper Swan and Greenland White-fronted geese activity. We are also commencing a number of projects in Northern Ireland.
We are also currently preparing the Natura Impact Assessment Report a major project off the east coast of Ireland; the Dublin Array Wind farm. This project is an offshore wind farm development consisting of 145 turbines that is being developed on the Kish and Bray Banks in the Irish Sea. Dublin Array has a potential installed capacity of 520 MW. Dublin Array will contribute almost 10% of the additional wind capacity required to achieve Ireland’s 2020 renewable energy targets. This project is of international significance and illustrates the significant capability and expertise that we have in relation to the ecological impact assessment of large scale renewable energy developments.
