Aerial surveys

Digital imaging techniques allow bird surveys to now be undertaken from over 500m above the ground using super HD digital cameras attached to aircraft. This approach allows surveys to be carried out from aircraft while flying sufficiently high to avoid disturbing birds, while still being able to detect and identify individual seabirds.
